Regulatory
Client Security Fund
A fund established and maintained by a state bar association or supreme court to reimburse clients who have suffered financial losses due to the dishonest conduct of their attorneys, such as theft or misappropriation of client funds. Client security funds are funded through mandatory assessments on licensed attorneys and serve as a last resort when the attorney is unable or unwilling to make restitution. Awards from the fund are typically capped at a maximum amount per claim, and the fund may pursue reimbursement from the offending attorney.
